SURVIVORS of prostate cancer are encouraging men in south Buckinghamshire to become aware of tests which can detect the disease and save their lives.
The Chilterns Prostate Cancer Support Group (CPCSG) is calling for people to find out more about the most common form of cancer in men during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
The group, which is in its fifth year, provides support to men living with the disease or who have been recently diagnosed. It is supporting The Prostate Cancer Charity in its month of awareness for the campaign.
A sculpture exhibition showcasing a Great Missenden artist's work is set to open to the public.
Winners of the Rotary Club's Christmas story competition will be awarded a Willy Wonka golden ticket, free admission into the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre.
Enthusiastic participants will also get framed certificates and book tokens.
The prizes will be given out on Wednesday, March 18, at the Damien Hall, adjacent to the Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, off the High Street, at 5.45pm.
A total of 12 prize winners will attend. The competition featured a total of 62 entries.
The competition was organised by the Rotary Clubs of Amersham, Chesham and Great Missenden.
The Prestwood Society will hold its annual meeting in March.
The evening will take place on Tuesday, March 17, at the village hall in Wycombe Road at 8pm.
Members and non members are welcome to attend.
A Prestwood woman is stepping up her campaign against the introduction of identity cards.
English and literacy tutor Katharine Stephenson, 47, of Clarendon Road, has formed the Prestwood and Great Missenden branch of NO2ID (No to Identity Cards), a pressure group.

The first sheep in one hundred years was dunked in a freshly restored pond in Prestwood
But sadly, there were no live sheep ready to submit themselves to this indignity heaped on their ancestors and a toy sheep was used instead.
On Saturday, the ancient tradition was resurrected to celebrate the final day of restoration of Sheepwash Pond in Honor End Road.
Youngsters swapped their school uniforms for aprons for the Rotary Young Chef competition.
Amersham, Chesham and Missenden Rotary Clubs staged the first heat of the national Young Chef competition at Chesham Park Community College last Saturday.
The competition is open to young people of school age who are interested in cooking.
The chefs had to come up with a healthy two course recipe, write it out, budget it and make it in two hours.
The Misbourne Explorer scout unit are holding their Annual Jumble sale in the Great Missenden Memorial Hall on Saturday January 17th 2009 commencing at 2.00pm.
