Missenden director organises HS2 awareness concerts

A MUSICAL director from Great Missenden has organised a series of concerts to highlight the threat that construction work for HS2 poses to historic buildings and churches.
Peter Bassano, 66, of Potter Row, said: "One of my jobs is as musical director of the Wendover Choral Society and many of the concerts we perform are in St Mary's Church, Wendover, which is a few hundred yards from the proposed route. If it goes ahead the noise will be tremendous and we will no longer be able to perform concerts. You need moments of silence to perform serious works.
"There's understandably been a lot of talk about homes being blighted by the route but not much about the 300 listed buildings and churches in our area."
He continued: "The HS2 route has to be built straight, so anything in its path will be destroyed.
"People's communities are going to be wrecked and a church, like the village pub, is at the heart of these communities. It struck me that a concert series in some of the affected churches would be a great way to heighten awareness. These churches are beautiful, many have stained-glass windows and go back to Saxon times."
Planned concerts include St Mary's Magdalene (Great Hampden), Lee Old Church (The Lee), Quainton Parish Church and St Mary's Church (Wendover). The first will take place in Great Hampden on March 31 at 7pm.

Oh please as if this is going to do anything to raise awarenesss or stop HS2. If this is the best we can do to stop HS2 then the government need not be worried as they will very easily get their way. What we need to be doing is spending our energies on putting forward different routes, calling for the resignation of Cheryl Gillan and Justine Greening as well as for that matter taking a vote of no confidence in David Cameron.
