CHERYL GILLAN MP told the public she would be prepared to speak out against high-speed rail plans and put her constituents first even if it meant defying Tory policy.
The MP for Chesham and Amersham was questioned by a member of the audience at a public meeting on why the Tory manifesto supported a high-speed rail link.
Mrs Gillan and Aylesbury MP David Lidington, were asked at the meeting on Monday evening at The Misbourne School, Great Missenden: "Would you support your constituents on getting it removed from the manifesto and if it comes to it, would you defy the party whip on the issue?"
Mrs Gillan, agreed that high-speed rail was promised if the Conservatives were to get into Government but the preferred route which has been announced was not part of the plans.

PUBLIC anger about controversial high-speed rail link plans cutting through the Chilterns boiled over at a packed-out public meeting.
Doors were closed an hour before the 'information' event was due to begin at the Misbourne School's 220 capacity hall on Monday evening.
But more than a hundred concerned residents were left outside in the rain after being refused entry on 'health and safety' grounds. Shouts could be heard inside the hall and police were called to the school in Misbourne Drive, Great Missenden, after tempers flared.

A MAN was threatened with being stabbed if he did not hand over cash in a robbery in Hazlemere.
A male victim was approached be a man who made the threat on Holmer Green Road at 11.15pm on Saturday (20/3).
The man handed over an amount of cash and was not injured.
The suspect is described as being black, 5ft 7ins, slim, in his late teens to early twenties, and was wearing a grey hooded top.

SCHOOL pupils who transformed wasteland into a vegetable plot and worked to make sure they school was 'green' have been rewarded for their eco efforts.
Little Kingshill Combined School was presented with an Eco-Schools Green Flag award on Monday by Buckinghamshire County Council chairman Richard Pushman.
For the recognition, which is awarded by environmental campaign charity Encams, the children looked at problems caused by how much rubbish they threw away and how much electricity they wasted and put in place an action plan.

A WOMAN who was born during the reign of King Edward VII is set to celebrate her 100th birthday.
Olive Armstrong, of Giles Gate, Prestwood, marks a century since her birth today (19/3).
Retired teacher Mrs Armstrong, who has no one else in her family who has lived for 100 years, attributes her longevity to taking royal jelly and cod liver oil supplements and by keeping active.
She said: "I've led a full life and haven't sat back at all. I think that's what keeps me going."

SURVIVORS of prostate cancer are encouraging men in south Buckinghamshire to become aware of tests which can detect the disease and save their lives.
The Chilterns Prostate Cancer Support Group (CPCSG) is calling for people to find out more about the most common form of cancer in men during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
The group, which is in its fifth year, provides support to men living with the disease or who have been recently diagnosed. It is supporting The Prostate Cancer Charity in its month of awareness for the campaign.
