'Considerable disquiet' over housing plans
FEARS have been raised about what the effects of building 2,900 houses in the Chiltern District could have on the area.
Chiltern District councillors spoke about possible consequences the new homes would have on schools, highways and drains at a cabinet meeting to discuss the proposals.
CDC was required by central government to name sites where housing could be built and has released a report to address the issue.
This includes 650 in Chesham, 600 in Amersham, 450 in Little Chalfont, 140 in Chalfont St Giles, 130 in Great Missenden and Prestwood, 110 in Holmer Green and 50 in Chesham Bois. These are the target numbers which would be built an an average rate of 145 a year by 2026. Around a third have already either already been built or received planning permission.
Cabinet member Michael Smith, who represents Little Chalfont, said the council would be in an 'unacceptable danger' without making the provision due to planning decisions being overturned at appeal. However he added there was 'considerable disquiet' in the village he represents over the plans because of its high allocation. He said: "There's a feeling this is unfair. There is also the Donkey Field site which most people in Little Chalfont would prefer not to be developed. I agree there is a need for a public consultation and hope we can continue to address the main concerns of Little Chalfont."
Councillors decided the public should be given their say on the proposals and agreed to a six-week consultation, costing £20,000, which is expected to be launched next month.
