Hollywood stars pop down Dahl's local
STARS of the big screen descended on Great Missenden today to promote a new film adaptation of Roald Dahl's tale Fantastic Mr Fox.
Legendary Hollywood actors Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman and the director of the animated movie Wes Anderson visited the picturesque Chiltern village, where the classic children's story was penned.
They held the press launch of the soon-to-be-released Twentieth Century Fox production at the beloved author's local The Nags Head, which also features in the film.
International media visited the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre in High Street to watch previews while excited schoolchildren lined the streets hoping to catch a glimpse of the A-listers.
Bill Murray, who pulled a pint at the pub and joked with reporters, said: "This seems really nice. It's pretty good coming out of hotels. This is different and it's nice to see this very special place."
Mr Murray, who plays the voice of Badger in the London-filmed movie, added: "We went to a farm to record some of the voices in different scenes. Usually these things are done in sound proof booths but it was great spending time together and working out how to make the sound of a doughnut packet being torn open."
Wes Anderson told the Examiner he had been inspired while visiting the the late author's home Gipsy House and staying with his widow Felicity Dahl.
Mr Anderson said: "I thought the movie should be set here. The whole area became a part of our script. The heart of the movie takes after Great Missenden, being where Dahl lived.
"I wanted to make it as much like Dahl's version as it possibly could be - that was my guiding principle."
Adam Michaels, who runs the family pub with his dad Alvin in London Road, said: "It was absolutely fantastic. We were very lucky to be approached by Twentieth Century Fox, especially as the film was based in Great Missenden. We have had one or two celebrities in before but today we had our first A-list ones."
Fantastic Mr Fox is released in cinemas on October 23.
