'Dictatorial' tag a shock for school
CLAIMS of 'dictatorial management' by a headteacher and deputy headteacher at a Great Missenden secondary school have left pupils and parents stunned.
Reports in the national press claim that staff at The Misbourne School compiled dossiers against Jon Howard-Drake and his deputy Bea Bates.
Serious claims involving 'dictatorial' management leaving staff with no where to turn to complain, led to a number of resignations through stress, it alleged.
Teachers at the Misbourne Drive school had a meeting with union chiefs and Keith Lawes, the chairman of governors to discuss the matter.
A former pupil at the school said: "Mrs Bates was always a supportive and encouraging teacher when she was my form tutor in the sixth form. She supported all of us in our career choices, even if we didn't want to follow the school's path to university so this is real shock.
"I had heard a number of the longer serving teachers had left because they were unhappy which is a shame because the school was really decent when I was there and I think those teachers were a big part of that."
Mr Howard-Drake retired at the end of summer term while Mrs Bates resigned from teaching in May.
The staff anger is in stark contrast to the school's reputation as the friendliest in the country - with it having the most former pupils still in touch on social networking website Friends Reunited.
Buckinghamshire County Council refused to comment on the reasons for the pair leaving and stated it was a matter for the chairman of the school's governing body. The authority offers advice to the board of governors on issues, but does not intervene unless asked to, according to a council spokeswoman.
Nobody at the school was available for comment at the time of going to press.
The school has appointed a new headteacher, the county council confirmed.

This could have been written about another secondary school in this area. I think SLT in schools have such a hold over the staff and their futures that they just keep quiet until they can get out of the situation.
