Fire station prepares for £200,000 makeover

GREAT Missenden Fire Station is set for a £200,000 facelift next month in an attempt to update the 60 year old building.
The station, in High Street, will get an new washing, toilet, kit room, kitchen, and meeting room facilities and a single storey extension and refurbishment of the current accommodation.
It has not been modernised or updated since it was built back in 1942.

Station manager Roy Hocking said: "These much-needed improvements will make the building fit for purpose for both the firefighters and the community they serve."
Work is set to begin on June 15 and completed by October this year and Bucks Fire and Rescue Service have said they will make sure the work does not disrupt village life.
A statement said: "Building supply vehicles will only access the High Street site from the London Road end and vehicle movements will be kept to a minimum during peak drop-off and pick up times at nearby Misbourne School."
The village's fire engine will remain in service at the fire station while the work is carried out.
