Fire station to get £200,000 facelift
A planned refurbishment of Great Missenden Fire Station will cost Bucks Fire and Rescue Service almost £200,000 and will begin later this year.
The station, in the High Street, lies in a conservation area close to Missenden Abbey.
The existing fire station is of brick construction with a pitched hipped roof to the appliance bay and a flat roof to the rest of the accommodation.
There is a brick drill tower on the site to the rear of the building. The structure is in need of refurbishment and extension in order to allow the Bucks Fire and Rescue Service to provide the required level of service to the community.
Fraser Pearson, a spokesman for the Bucks Fire and Rescue Service, said that the work would be completed "as soon as possible" and would operate within certain constraints.
"There are listed buildings adjacent to the site, " he said. "And the grain and texture of the existing building is to be respected.
"The vehicular access into and around the station has to be maintained in order that the operation of the service is not compromised.
"The design of the proposed extension is required to compliment the existing building and make a positive contribution to the conservation area."
Mr Pearson said the rationale behind the planned improvements was to improve the standard of the existing accommodation, to bring the fire station up to modern requirements and to provide a building that enables the fire service engage the community.
The interior of the existing building will be refurbished and additional accommodation will be provided to supplement the current inadequate facilities.
