Second Prestwood Christmas event

Prestwood-2.jpgMore than 500 people attended Saturday's second annual Prestwood late night celebration of Christmas event.
The evening began with a 200-strong procession from Prestwood Infant School in Moat Lane to the shopping centre in Chequers Parade.

The procession, led by Father Christmas, featured youngsters from the infant school and representatives from Holy Trinity and The Kings Church.
Reverend Daniel Heywood was the standard bearer for Holy Trinity with The Kings Church represented by Colin Veysey (correct).
At Chequers Parade everyone sang carols including Away in a Manger and then the lights were switched on. A nativity scene, carved from wood by parish councillor Mark Cunnane was unveiled.
Steam enthusiast Paul Green arrived with his Victorian style barrel organ and there was a pink bus playing DVDS which attracted the teenagers.
All of the shops were open and goodies were dispensed to grateful villagers who enjoyed evoking what organiser Laurel Swayne called "the spirit of Christmas."
A total of £800 was raised which will be distributed to a quartet of charities: The Thomas Ball Children's Cancer Fund, The XP Support Group, MS, and The Prestwood Supporters of Cancer Research.
Mrs Swayne said: "It went very well indeed and people were very happy. The barrel organ provided a nice touch and the evening ended with fireworks which were set off from the infant school, providing a spectacle for the entire village."
