Prestwood scouts excel

Scouts from the Chilterns excelled during atrocious conditions at Pitstone - all part of the annual exertion known as The Grimsdyke Hikes.
Packs from Seer Green and Prestwood finished top of the pile but there were 24 other teams from Amersham and Chalfont who completed their assignments.

With visibility down to 20 yards in places the scouts were resolute in soldiering on regardless, demonstrating oodles of character and commitment.
A total of 400 scouts and guides pitted themselves against the elements, starting off from Pitstone Memorial Hall, near Marsworth.
Armed with a map, compass and a set of directions to find some 15 control points, scattered through the Ashridge Forest, even Ivinghoe Beacon was missed as the fog came down.
Scouts spokesman Brian Shelley said: "Older scouts camped out overnight in freezing conditions, having erected their tents and cooked their evening meal."
