Obituary: Mike Davis

Gt-Miss-Mike-Davis.jpgA former Army major who became founding chairman for the Friends of Great Missenden Parish Church has died following a two year battle with bile duct cancer.
Major Mike Davis, 68, who lived in Great Missenden, died on Tuesday, November 11, Armistice Day.
His funeral will take place on Monday, November 24, at the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, Church Hill, Great Missenden, at 2pm.

Major Davis, described by his wife, Vivienne, as a "gentle giant" was a doughty fighter with an indomitable spirit, who kept going until the very end.
He inspired others with his positivity.
"Mike was a good man, his faith, his sterling integrity and his deep concern for others were there for all to see, ",wrote his longstanding friend Jennifer Moss.
Educated at Sandhurst and born in Kent, Major Davis spent 37 years in the Army, with the Staffordshire Regiment (The Prince of Wales's).
He served in Oman and later worked as the Army's schools liaison officer and for the Education Corps in Beaconsfield.
Married in 1966 to wife Vivienne, the couple have three grown up children: Susannah, William, and Richard, and two grand children, Jacqueline, 13, and Heather, 10.
In later years Major Davis studied archaelogy at Oxford University.
He was a member of the Chess Valley and Misbourne Archaelogical Society, and chairman of the Bucks Archaelogical Society.
He served as a case worker helping service personnel with spinal injuries at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. He enjoyed model railways, gardening and walking.
